The Kalvarienberg is located in the middle of the juniper reserve "Lampertstal" in the municipality of Blankenheim. It is the largest contiguous juniper area in North Rhine-Westphalia. Pasque Flower, 31 species of orchid and gentians can be found on the juniper heaths. At an altitude of 517 meters above sea level, from Kalvarienberg you have a wonderful view over the rolling hills of the Dollendorf limestone basin to the volcanic cones of Aremberg, Hoher Acht and Nürburg.

The term Calvary is derived from the Latin translation of the Aramaic mountain name Golgota of Vulgata, where it is given as Calvariae locus, Latin for "the skull place".

Calvary is today called about life-size reproductions of the suffering of Christ in an elevated place, often only the crucifixion group, but also more extensive groups of sculptures of the path of suffering.

Kalvarienberg Alendorf (up to about 1660 Kelberg) is a 523 meter high lookout mountain, at whose ascent are the stations of a crossroads. The Stations of the Cross starts at the gothic church of St. Agatha (1494) between Alendorf and Ripsdorf.
