Diepenbrock Castle

There are two alpacas living there, one a little more friendly than the other. PLEASE DO NOT FEED THEM.

Viaduct with viewing platform. In 2021, the old railway bridge over the Holtwicker Bach stream was renovated by the local history society. It is a brick arch bridge built in 1870 spanning the Holtwicker Bach. A ramp for people with disabilities was also constructed leading down to the stream. The project was supported by the EU and the city of Bocholt.

Looks absolutely “enchanted”😍

The Holtwick Stream has been beautifully restored in this section. It now meanders beautifully through the wet meadows, including a small pond. The crowning glory is a stork's nest, which has already been well received.

Awakening Ferns

It used to be beautiful and peaceful here. Hekkendelle is now a mandatory walking route that attracts many noisy “hikers”.

History was made with this European project. The Bültenhaus was opened in 2009 and offers senior apartments on the German side, which are maintained by the Diakonie Johanneswerk, and there is a retirement home on the Dutch side. In the café, directly across the Hellweg, in the middle between the two facilities, people met for events and to exchange ideas. Unfortunately, the tavern (café) has been closed since Corona (2020) and has not reopened. Today: European everyday life instead of euphoria! The hoped-for meeting of seniors from both sides hardly takes place anymore. The different accounting systems are also a barrier. Conclusion: In order to live in a common Europe, everyone has to work on it.
