Hikers are welcome guests at the Krausberghütte, located on the mountain of the same name above Dernau, just a stone's throw from the Krausberg Tower (if interested, see https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/72123). It is run by the local chapter of the Eifel Association – a volunteer organization. Those planning a stop here should check the opening hours beforehand.

A striking point in the Ahreifel is undoubtedly the Krausberg above Dernau. It is not only known for a hut run by the local branch of the Eifel Association, but also for the Krausberg Tower.

One of the most beautiful viewpoints, the forests, the village, the valley, the river and of course the ruins, beautiful.

A flood in the summer of 2021 devastated the center of Mayschoß. The federal highway 267 and the route of the Ahr Valley Railway were destroyed by the masses of water. The town could only be reached from the north (Kalenborn or Alteheck) via field and forest paths. In the past, parts of Mayschoß were destroyed by numerous Ahr floods, including those in 1804 and 1910. The restoration of the town is still in full swing.

From the Steinerberg you have a beautiful panoramic view over the heights of the Ahrgebirge. I also definitely recommend a stop at the cozy Steinerberghaus. The opening hours and further information can be found here: https://www.steinerberghaus.de/

The path is tough, but so is the view. The Landskrone is also visible from afar, for orientation. Only on New Year's Eve should you think twice whether you want to go here... because many people have the idea, fireworks are sometimes shot across, and if something happens then it could take a while for help to arrive (fortunately that didn't happen to us back then).

Beautiful place on the meadow to rest with a beautiful view 👍 In 1911 the Steinerberghaus began as a simple refuge for the Eifel Association. Ten years later it was already an excursion restaurant with overnight accommodation. To mark the 100th birthday of the Steinerberghaus, a sundial by the Bonn sculptor Anton Schmitz was inaugurated. The special thing about this clock: it is tilted parallel to the earth's axis and directed north in the shape of a globe. It therefore represents the exact image of our planet and is illuminated by the sun at the same angle as it. A map of the Earth was also carved into the surface of this massive basalt ball.
