Great beer garden with extremely friendly service. Great!

The Mulzer pine, as it was formerly called after a pilot from the First World War, was struck by lightning in the 1980s. Because it was believed that the tree would not survive, a new one was planted next to it. The tree survived nonetheless and you can still see the marks on the bark.

Since December 2024, the inn has been run by "Just & Ela". The food is delicious, the service is good 🙂.

Mariaberg is the name of a mountain and the village located there in the St. Lorenz district of the city of Kempten (Allgäu). The town is located in the eastern part of the ridge of the same name. The highest elevation of the ridge is called Höhenegg, which, at 915 m above sea level, is also the highest elevation in the city of Kempten. The town's Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1783 on the orders of the Kempten prince abbot Honorius Roth von Schreckenstein. Until 1768, a chapel owned by Balthasar Weegmann from Guggers am Kniebos stood on the same spot. The chapel is regularly used by the Catholic parish of St. Lorenz for church services. In the Tyrolean War of Freedom, Vorarlberg troops allied with the Tyroleans marched over the Mariaberg to Kempten several times in 1809. The Mariaberg offers a good view over Kempten, the southern Allgäu and into the Alps.

The road to Sommersberg is nicer from Herbisried and not so steep. Depending on the weather, you can also see some of the mountains, even if the mountains are far away. I rode the dirt road to the bridge after a long period of rain, and the ground had lots of gullies and holes from the water. The route goes through the forest, which I personally don't like, and I'll cross the route off my list. If you feel like it, you can ride the route from top to bottom over the bridge and on a nice side road to Altusried, where you'll come to an ice cream parlor or snack bar right on the bike path. The ice cream is delicious, and there are snacks and drinks.

A quick escape from the hustle and bustle of Kempten and enjoyed the fantastic view.

The Sommerberg is, if you will, the guardian of Altusried on the other side of the Iller. From here you have a nice view of the Illerschleife on a good day. From the Sommerberg there is a nice little descent for cyclists down to the banks of the Iller and over the suspension bridge.
