Always a pleasure to get to the other side of the NOK on foot, by bike or by car 😉...

Like VeloRoute 10 is a former railway line, so it has no incline.

In principle, just get on the ferry and drive over and possibly back again 😊... This is definitely a great highlight 😉...

I think the bike street is absolutely world class ✔. You really have to try it. Driven once and gladly taken again and again 💚...

Very grateful that Kiel has developed a central cycle route! Pleasant asphalt, cycling through the countryside without traffic... you can't get enough of it ;-)

It is not only possible to take the ferry to cross over here, to sit on the bench to watch the hustle and bustle on the canal and to watch the ferry while it is being crossed ... that alone is worth a trip here!

On the north side is a totally cozy snack bar with all kinds of delicacies and comfortable seating with a view of the canal.

You have the possibility to change the NOK several times with the ferries free of charge! In this way you always gain new impressions and different perspectives.

The Kiel Canal is a 98 km long artificial waterway, the construction of which not only cut through landscapes, forests, and fields, but sometimes also through villages and existing country roads. The major roads and railways were connected by gigantic bridges, while the smaller ones are "spanned" by ferries. A total of 14 ferries operate along the canal, transporting cars, bicycles, and pedestrians from one bank to the other day and night, free of charge by imperial decree. For anxious passengers, it should be noted that they are probably the safest means of transport there is, as there have been no significant accidents in their over 100-year history! Crossing the canal on the Landwehr ferry is always interesting, as you can usually see one or more ships crossing the ferry's path. www.kielkanal.de/html/fahren.html

The route along the NOK between Sehestedt and Büdelsdorf is one of the most beautiful and consistently easy to drive. I can clearly recommend.

It is not for nothing that it is one of the most popular fishing waters in Schleswig-Holstein, the Kiel Canal. With its unique juxtaposition of saltwater and freshwater fish, it offers a huge variety of species all year round. Its fish population ranges from zander, carp, pike and eel to cod and plaice as well as sea, brown and rain trout. And don't forget the herring, thousands of which flock to the canal every spring to spawn. Then the anglers stand close together and pull the herring, which are migrating in schools, out of the canal by the dozens. https://www.tinok.de/mittelholstein/nord-ostsee-kanal/ausflugs targets-am-nok.html

The Kiel Canal is almost 100 kilometers long: a unique structure with ten bridges, 14 ferries, twelve switches, two tunnels and huge locks. A building full of history and stories. It took eight years to complete. Up to 9,000 men from all over Europe worked on the canal - and encountered a number of problems and challenges. The canal was opened on June 21, 1895. How much pomp the emperor put into the ceremony, where traces of it can still be found today and why the canal separated the small village of Sehestedt (Rendsburg-Eckernförde district) is what the journey through time with special film documents is about. A look at what still makes the canal unique and special even after 125 years. The two intersections are stupid. Car traffic still has priority here.
