The monastery church is the most impressive medieval building on the lower Lahn, combining two architectural styles that can be seen from afar: the Romanesque style of the west towers and the Gothic style of the octagonal east towers. Its construction began in 1132 after old castle walls and rock were removed. It took 76 years until the consecration in 1208.
