Background according to the information board on site: The Alm goes back to the first beer serving service to water and forest workers, at the very beginning of 1895 at a construction hut. The lack of a bar license was circumvented - even at the time creatively - by founding a "Consum Association". In 1898/1900, Xaver Kugler, who gave it his name, leased/acquired the alpine pasture. After being upgraded to a real inn, the business developed into a popular excursion destination. According to sources from the Munich city archives, in 1930 the press even spoke of the "largest alpine pasture in the world" after a beer and dance hall for 2,000 people was built in 1925 and the beer garden was generously expanded. In the decades after Kugler's death in 1935, things became quieter around the Alm. If you come from the north you first go through shady forest, then at the end drive into the light and see the mountains in front of you, always a great feeling. When the weather is nice, especially at the southern end, lots of walkers! Also very nice when there is a bit of ground fog.
