The pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard is a little off the beaten track, on the southern outskirts of the village of Siegertsbrunn. The Siegertsbrunner Leonhardikirche is one of the oldest and most important of its kind in old Bavaria. In the 16th century pilgrims came here from a radius of up to 200 km. In its present form, the Leonhardikirche goes back to the Wittelsbachs. According to legend, the founder of the village, Sigoho, built a wooden chapel on the site of today's church around the year 1000, but the first documented mention of a stone church dates back to 1460. According to the latest findings, the start of construction is probably as early as 1440. For centuries, the Leonhardi Festival has taken place in Siegertsbrunn on the first Sunday after Kilian (July 8th).
