The Katzenstein is a viewing rock 90m above the valley floor of the black Pockau. Many hiking trails lead past that can also be used by bike. With around 250,000 visitors a year, the Katzenstein is the most popular observation rock in the Ore Mountains.

There are several ways to climb the Katzenstein from the Schwarzwassertal. However, you also have the option of driving via Pobershau to the hiking car park at Katzenstein and then walking a few meters.

The narrow path (Röhrgrabenweg) along the moat is a quieter walk and a real highlight for children. The wider path in the valley between Ehrenfriedersdorf or Geyer and the Greifenbachstauweier is more suitable for cyclists.
