妻もクリムドンからの帰りにその角を曲がることを提案しましたが、それはライドのハイライトでした。新しいターマック舗装された路面（Wynyard-Crimdon Dene-Wynyard）が、ルートの砂利の要素の多くを取り除いたため、その理由が理解できると思いました。

This is a lovely out-and-back route that used to be the old Ryhope/Silksworth railway line (locally known as "The Line") that used to carry coal to the pit. It predominantly trails/mud route, depending on how far back in the route you start. The trail does have a marginal incline/decline depending on where you start. I parked at the top lake at the Ski Slope and ran all the way to the grass field in Ryhope, then turned around. The advantage of the route is that you can make it as long or as short as you want. the route I did above, was 4mi

This pit winding wheel stands on the site of a former colliery as a reminder of past times. It's located on a disused railway line, now part of NCN 1. It was a former colliery route connecting the mining village of Ryhope to the Sunderland Docks.

Hetton Lyons Country Park is a pretty park centred around a water sports lake. It has a cafe based in the Springboard Adventure centre. It was once the site of a coal mine, operating for almost 130 years. The colliery closed in 1950.
