The Eichtalpark is a public park of approximately 7.5 hectares in the Hamburg district of Wandsbek. It stretches along the Wandse between Kedenburgstraße in the west and Bei der Hopfenkarre in the east. It is bordered to the north by Walddörferstraße and to the south by Ahrensburger Straße.[1]

Some street names in Hinschenfelde, in Hamburg's Wandsbek district, still indicate that there must have once been many oil and wood mills here. First mentioned in a document in 1336, tanneries, leather factories and brickworks began to settle there in the 18th century. The Wandsbek industrialist Lucas Lütkens also settled here and initially used his property as a summer residence. Around 1830, Lütkens had oak trees planted on his property. He also now had a leather factory nearby and wanted to extract the tannins he needed from the bark and leaves of his oak trees. 40 years later, his grandson, Caspar Oscar Lütkens, converted the plantation into a park, today's Eichtalpark. In 1926 the site was purchased by the then self-sufficient city of Wandsbek and made available to the public in the future as the “Wandsbeker City Park”. A year later, a convenience store for visitors was built next to the historic iron gate of the southern entrance. The two sphinxes of the Lütken park property, which were built in the 18th century, were integrated into the structure and so it also served as the southern main entrance. The building has been a listed building since September 2005. After the Second World War, a large part of the trees were cut down, but were replanted in the 1960s. Today you can find ten different species of oak here, including the Lebanese oak, the dyed oak and the willow oak.
