The previously somewhat run-down castle complex has been lovingly restored for several years by the “Offensive Young Christians” association, which also uses the buildings. The St. Michael's Chapel is particularly worth seeing. There is a great view from the café's beer garden. Guided tours are available on request.

Lichtenberg Castle Little is known about the origins of Lichtenberg Castle, which stood on the site of today's castle in the Middle Ages. Count Diether III. (Count von Katzenelnbogen between 1190 and 1214) married a Bertha von Lichtenberg, this could indicate an already existing castle in Lichtenberg. The first documentary mention of Lichtenberg is assumed to be in the year 1228: Count Diether IV. von Katzenelnbogen called himself comes (Count) de Lichtenberg at the district court in Heppenheim. In general, it is assumed that it was created around 1200. It is also assumed that the castle was built before 1254 by Count Diether IV von Katzenelnbogen. A document from 1295 has been preserved, in which Count Palatine Rudolf, as feudal lord, allowed Count Wilhelm von Katzenelnbogen to bequeath Lichtenberg Castle and its accessories to his wife Irmengard as a dowry.

The keep (25 m high) with its humpback brickwork is the oldest structure of Breuberg Castle. As a "reward", climbing the tower offers an impressive picture of the size of the castle complex and a good view of the former rulership of Breuberg and far beyond (Taunus, Spessart, Neunkircher Höhe).
