Very nice for cooling down

The Konradsdorf monastery was built around 1100. It was a former convent for Premonstratensian nuns.

The castle was built in the 12th century to secure the trade route from Frankfurt to Leipzig by the "Lords of Liebesberg", who were first mentioned in documents in 1222. With the death of Friedrich von Lißberg in 1396, the Lißberg family died out. Johann von Rodenstein, a brother-in-law of Friedrich, took possession of the castle and from then on called himself Johann von Rodenstein and Lißberg. In 1415, the counts Johann II and Gottfried IX von Ziegenhain took the castle by force and three years later (1418) sold half to the Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse. After the death of the last count of Ziegenhain, Johann II, in 1450, the castle and office of Lißberg fell entirely to the Landgrave of Hesse. The castle was built in the 12th century and today only the keep, also called Lißberger Krautfass, remains.

The monastery church and provost's building are among the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in Hesse. The evidence from the Hohenstaufen period tells of the former Premonstratensian monastery, which experienced its heyday in the late Middle Ages with land, rental income and donations from nobles.

Wenings used to be a fortress town in Ysenburg and was the summer residence of the Counts of Isenburg and Birstein for centuries. Moritzstein Castle, which was part of the city fortifications, came into the possession of the then independent city of Wenings at the beginning of the last century. On the ground floor of the building is the local history museum with a permanent exhibition on rural living and working in previous centuries as well as information on the city's history. During guided tours, which can be booked through the Gedern tourist office, you can get to know the museum, the historic coat of arms hall on the first floor and the history of the town of Wenings.
