Wenings used to be a fortress town in Ysenburg and was the summer residence of the Counts of Isenburg and Birstein for centuries. Moritzstein Castle, which was part of the city fortifications, came into the possession of the then independent city of Wenings at the beginning of the last century.
On the ground floor of the building is the local history museum with a permanent exhibition on rural living and working in previous centuries as well as information on the city's history. During guided tours, which can be booked through the Gedern tourist office, you can get to know the museum, the historic coat of arms hall on the first floor and the history of the town of Wenings.
