☆ Historic hunting lodge from Kössern (1709) has been extensively renovated inside. It is a little gem located in the middle of Kössern. The inner courtyard is also impressive with its fruit trees.

The Kössern hunting lodge is considered a gem of baroque architecture. It was built in 1709 under the supervision of Wolf-Dietrich von Erdmannsdorff, chief court hunter and elder minister of the Elector August "the Strong", and served as a setting for the popular stately hunting parties. The richly painted facade, the ballroom with fireplaces and ceiling paintings testify to the baroque splendor. At the beginning of the 18th century, the chief court hunter at the court of August the Strong, Wolf Dietrich von Erdmannsdorff, commissioned the construction of the Kössern hunting lodge in the style of a baroque mansion. The architect of the magnificent building was none other than Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann, whose most famous work is the Dresden Zwinger. Renaissance castle from the 17th century, headquarters of the Wermsdorf tourist information office, guided tours on request, registry office. The extensive game-rich Wermsdorf forests encouraged Elector Christian II to have the first hunting lodge built on the site of the old manor between 1607 and 1610. This was kept very simple and was therefore soon rebuilt and expanded in the style of the German Renaissance from 1617 to 1626 on the orders of Elector Johann Georg I. Builder Simon Hoffmann gave the castle its current shape. Three irregular wings form the courtyard, numerous gables effectively enliven the facades and a special decoration is a bay window with artistic sandstone work. An octagonal stair tower with a lantern and a curved hood separates the two main wings. From 1626 to 1628 the building served as an electoral hunting lodge. However, the turmoil of the 30 Years' War interrupted the actual purpose until 1685.

What a beautiful castle 🏰, gorgeous. It kind of reminds me of Schloss 🏰 Ponitz. The tavern opposite is worth its weight in gold for hikers.

Mildenstein Castle is definitely worth a visit! Everything is in top condition, well maintained and very interesting. A beautiful facility
