The town hall in Gerstungen is the former Villa Kleinsorge from 1919.

Mone Kali can be seen from far away and it is even possible to climb it.

Beautiful historic town center, worth a detour.

It's worth a stop! Information boards on both sides of the bridge tell the rich history of both towns. A detour to the historic town center is definitely worthwhile. I especially recommend a visit to the small castle and a climb to the tower (€1). From there, you'll enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding area and the bridge.

nice side route to the official route, single trail very easy to ride

Gerstungen station served as a border station until reunification. Citizens of the GDR were not permitted to travel from here without special authorization/enter the Federal Republic of Germany. Since Gerstungen was already within the restricted area, other GDR citizens were also only allowed to stay there with permission, or residents had to carry appropriate identification documents.
