A beautiful town with the castle as its highlight. The castle is open in the summer from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The forecourt and the castle garden are freely accessible. There is an admission fee for the castle itself and the exhibitions. As of 2025, the fee is €7 per person. But it's definitely worth it.

Cadolzburg Castle is an impressive medieval fortress perched on a prominent rocky outcrop above the town of the same name in Bavaria. Its history dates back to the 12th century, and for a long time it was an important base for the burgraves of Nuremberg, later known as the Hohenzollerns. The castle served not only as a defensive structure but also as an administrative center and temporary residence. Today, the castle houses a modern interactive museum called "HerrschaftsZeiten!" (HerrschaftsZeiten!), which vividly conveys the history of the Hohenzollerns in Franconia and Brandenburg.

It was even open today at around 1pm. The daily menu included currywurst, schnitzel and bratwurst. A really lovely and huge beer garden (all new seating outside), very inviting and the food is delicious. Also ideal with children because there is almost no traffic and the adjacent pond is always inviting to watch frogs :-)

The 25 meter high observation tower (colloquially "pencil") was built at a high point in the town in 1893 by the local railway company (LAG) Munich in neo-Gothic style to promote excursion traffic to Cadolzburg.[42] In clear weather, it offers a far-reaching all-round view. It used to be a popular excursion destination, especially for the people of Fürth, who took the train to Cadolzburg at the weekend or especially when the cherry trees were in blossom ("in die Bläih"). A square wooden staircase leads up five floors. About halfway up is a small balcony on the north side of the tower, accessible through a wooden door. Slightly tapered in the upper part, the covered viewing platform juts out over consoles. At the end is a spire with four decoratively protruding windows on each side. The tower can be climbed for a donation and is generally open unguarded from sunrise to sunset. Source: Wikipedia

The New Town Hall on the market square. Every day at 12 noon you can hear and see the billy goat on the town hall. 🐐

In addition to good food and a cool beer, another advantage is that you can cycle largely car-free. This makes it ideal for families with children, especially since there is also lemonade. :-)

Definitely preferable to the cycle path along the main road! In the further course you can then drive to the city center of Erlangen (almost) without a car escort!

A really small village with the center of the castle 🏰, herb garden, shop and museum. A Hohenzollern castle that invites you to linger. You can park your bike and explore the small "village center" on foot is even better
