The picturesque old town and the historic market square with the richly decorated half-timbered houses invite you to linger. Braunfels with its historic city center was first mentioned in Anno Domini 1246 as “Castellum Bruninfels”. The history of the place is closely linked to the history of the castle and the counts of Solms-Braunfels. After a fire in 1678, the market square was rebuilt. Today there is the tourist information, gastronomy and small shops with a wide range of different goods.

Runkel is located in the Lahn valley between the Westerwald and Taunus. Runkel was first mentioned in a document in 1259. Runkel Castle is outstanding. A knight of Charlemagne is said to have decided to build a castle in 787. The castle was built to secure the Lahn crossing and has been expanded several times.
