Very nice castle, very few people in Hamburg know about this gem. One of the most beautiful Christmas markets in northern Germany also takes place on the Schloßwiese.

In earlier years, lions and other predators were often and gladly placed as guardian figures in front of castles and mansions. The lioness in the Bergedorf Castle Park is much more recent and otherwise deviates from the usual forms of representation. She shows much less impressiveness than many of her male counterparts and also looks in the direction of the castle instead of watching in front of it. The granite sculpture shows simplified, flowing lines with rear legs set far back. Originally there was also a tiger by the same artist in the palace park next to the lioness. The castle was built in the Renaissance style between 1572 and 1576. A beautiful building complex, which is characterized by beautiful architecture with impressive rooms and preciously painted wooden beam ceilings. Weddings and other celebrations and conferences also find a dignified setting here. The castle is nestled in a park with large old trees by the idyllic mill pond. Gastronomy in the castle with a terrace facing the castle park is also popular
