In the Middle Ages, people searched for ore here, but apparently nothing was found. The name of the hill, Totenstein (Dead Stone), probably comes from the dead rock. Today, the protected and rare luminous moss grows in the tunnels.

At 561.9 m, the Tabakstanne is the highest point in Thalheim and also the highest point on the B 180 between Thalheim and Stollberg. The name Tabakstanne originally comes from a fir tree that grew there, but it was destroyed by lightning in 1911. There was supposedly always a lighter in a hollow in the tree, so the point where the iron road crosses today's B 180 became a resting place for carters. At the Tabakstanne there is now an education and leisure center of the same name, which was previously used as a restaurant for excursions. You never stop learning! It took me years to discover this little highlight. Hidden behind the restaurants for the average weekend walker, you can actually find this pretty rock formation. 🪨💚

A particularly popular excursion destination is the summit cross, erected by Helmut Körner in 2017 at a height of 412 m above sea level. Numerous visitors have already made entries in the summit book there. Bench and table invite you to rest after the ascent and a picture reminds of the initiator of the summit cross.
