Amöneburg is located about 16 km east of Marburg on a basalt cone that can be seen from afar. The name stands for both the small town and the castle on the Amöneberg with a height of 365m. It is an offshoot of the Vogelsberg volcanism in the east of Hesse. The climb to the highest point is up to 16% steep. The view in clear weather is remarkable.

The Rauischer Hof, which was built around 1500 by the Lords of Rau, is a manor house in Rauischholzhausen. With its three-storey half-timbering and roof turrets, it is a landmark for the town in Erbsdorfergrund. In 1873 it became the property of Ferdinand Eduard von Stumm, who had the castle, castle park and castle pond built. In 1938 it was the property of the Wilhelm G. Kerkhoff Foundation, which leased it to the Justus Liebig University in Giessen as a teaching and experimental facility.

It is a wonderful place up here at the ruins of the castle, which was probably built in the 13th century, later converted into a landgrave's palace in the 16th century and unfortunately destroyed in 1646 during the Hessian War. I liked it here in the wonderful summer weather so much that I made two sketches to help me remember this moment even better.

The small and beautiful town of Amöneburg is located on a basalt cone. There is a lot to discover and experience here. It is a pleasure to stay here, great.
