Varlar Abbey, often referred to as a monastery, was a Premonstratensian monastery founded by the Counts of Cappenberg in Münsterland. The monastery, which was converted into Varlar Castle, is part of the Varlar farming community in the Rosendahl district of Osterwick. The community there existed from about 1123/24 until secularization in 1803. After that, the monastery became the property of the Wildgrafen and Rheingrafen zu Salm, who took over a large part of the extensive church property and also became sovereign for a short time.

Haus Egelborg is a moated castle, the oldest part of which was built in the Dutch Renaissance style. The imposing complex was first mentioned in documents in the 14th century and is located west of the town of Legden in a large wooded area. The House of Egelborg has been owned by the Barons of Oer since the 17th century.

A very beautiful manor house, which is circled on three sides during the tour. A must-see if you're in Legden. It's also not far from Legden train station, so easily accessible by bike or on foot.

A real gem! It's certainly nice to live in something like that.
