Today, Loburg House is the home of the Prince of Salm-Salm family. Loburg also provides a home for around 20 people. The chapel at Loburg House also provides a festive setting for weddings and baptisms. To explain the centuries-old history of this royal fiefdom, castle complex, mayor's court, people's castle, noble residence, and monument, the following: The location of Loburg not far from Coesfeld and to the right of the Berkel River, on the edge of the Stockum Mark, but still within the town gate of Coesfeld, demonstrates how well chosen and important the site was. Originally, it was a hillfort, meaning a place fortified by a rampart and ditch. Ramparts as prehistoric fortifications, with single or multiple earthworks in the form of circular walls and ditches, were the form of fortification found in the forest and moorland lowlands of northwest Germany. Fortified dwellings stood within them – later on pile grids. They served as refuges for the surrounding area. In Loburg, there were originally three ditches around the island house. In the event of an attack, the surrounding farm residents are said to have fled here, taking their livestock with them, and then defended themselves from wall to wall. Franz and Sophia, Prince and Princess of Salm-Salm, have lived in Loburg since 1992, and their three sons grew up here. Haus Loburg has been family-owned since 1912. To continue this tradition, it must constantly renew itself and adapt to current situations. The 16th century noble residence surrounded by moats is located in the picturesque farming community of Sirksfeld near Coesfeld and is also called "The Loburg".
