At least today the water didn't look particularly good. While other lakes, ponds and rivers are clear, the Orchelsweiher is filled with brown water.

The total filling volume is around 25 million cubic meters. Filling began in 1994. Every year, 3.8 million m³ of water is pumped into the lake from swamp wells in the Inden opencast mine so that it maintains its current level. According to the Aachen city region, this supply of swamp water will be necessary until 2061.

Lake Barmen is idyllically located on the edge of a landscape protection area and has a small beach and a lawn for sunbathing. Here you can cool down and relax away from the hustle and bustle of an outdoor pool. To protect nature, swimming is only permitted in officially designated bathing areas. Entry is free, you enter and swim at your own risk, there is no lifeguard. In the immediate vicinity, between Floßdorf and Broich, the Rur meanders along its natural course. Walking paths around Lake Barmen invite you to discover the charming surroundings.

The water from the Barmener See is crystal clear and invites you to linger.

Beautiful natural beach Barmener See on the Rur between Jülich and Linnich. It is ideal for a short circular hike (about 5 km) or as a start or stop for a longer hike. About 100-150 m from the beach (outskirts of Barmen) there is a parking lot and a possibility to take a break
