Created by the replenishment of an open pit residual hole of the former lignite mine "Zukunft", the approximately 100 hectare Blausteinsee is today the center of a leisure and recreation area. Around the lake there is a green belt about 100 meters wide. Swimming, diving and many other types of water sports are possible in Blausteinsee. Around the lake memorial stones and crossroads remind communities and villages that had to give way to lignite mining.
