To say the road itself isn't very pleasant to cycle on is a very, very, very mild way of putting it. For me, it was the worst section of the entire R1 EuroVelo route I'd cycled so far! But the castle and its grounds were truly impressive.

Beautifully renovated building, but unfortunately no access, not even to the outside area.

A truly worthwhile gem. Open Monday to Friday, morning until afternoon. Tower tours cost €3 per person. Weddings are also permitted here.

The chef is very accommodating. We were personally invited despite the large event. The wine is of very high quality, sourced locally. The food is made with love. Salt and pepper are available for those who prefer a spicier touch. The atmosphere is pleasant and well-maintained.

The Gänsefurther Castle is privately owned and cannot be visited. But it is also pretty to look at from the outside.

Since 2010, the castle has belonged to the Trotha-Taylor family again and is to be used as a residence. In the meantime, extensive renovation work has been carried out.
