The town of Enns is considered Austria's oldest town and boasts a rich history dating back to Roman times. The town square, with its 60-meter-high town tower from the 16th century, is the visible centerpiece, surrounded by historic town houses, the Baroque Marienbrunnen fountain, and numerous cafés with cozy outdoor seating. Enns combines medieval flair with modern quality of life and is today an attractive place for culture, events, and enjoyable breaks – especially for cyclists traveling along the Enns Cycle Path or the Danube Cycle Path. Benches, bike parking, and regional restaurants invite you to linger.

Enns is the successor town of Lauriacum, which was elevated to city status in 212.

Wonderful circular hike away from the hustle and bustle in the hilly Mühlviertel landscape. The legend of the devil (information board at the summit cross) is really brilliant, a clever farmer😜

Such rock formations are more commonly found further north in the Mühlviertel region. A great destination for a day trip that is easy to reach or can be explored via a beautiful circular hiking trail: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2058392409

Enns is considered the oldest town in Austria. Very pretty, nice to walk around and have a meal at the main square.

The hiking trail is also wonderful when coming up from Windegg. The last stretch to the rock formation is then a matter of personal judgement.

Be careful, the wind was blowing here. End of June 2024. Seems to be well known and lowers the average, which was not taken into account in the planning.
