11月 5, 2024, Großpetersdorf–Rechnitz Rail Trail
It is a very nice cycle path with a rest area to Gr. Petersdorf with repair tools and a rest area near Rechnitz are both very nice. This railway path is also highly recommended for families. Don't forget the wooden locomotive in Hannersdorf with a playground and pasture area.

I love this castle! I am happy that it can be visited freely and there is less interference from posterity than in the case of other larger castles in the area. ... there will be good summer programs for sure and I will also award the creative exhibition... Wheelbarrows!😄👍

The Batthyány Castle is a castle in the town of Güssing in the district of the same name in Burgenland. It is owned by the Batthyány family and is a listed building. Built in the 18th century as a replacement residence for the medieval Güssing Castle, which was considered inconvenient at the time, it is still used by the family for residential purposes today.

A castle with history... We were unable to see the exhibition this time due to time constraints, but we will of course do so later, but we enjoyed the castle and its aura. A beautiful place where you can enjoy the view.

The Franciscan monastery and monastery church of Güssing are located in the town of Güssing in the district of the same name in the Austrian state of Burgenland. The entire complex was originally part of the former city fortifications and is now a listed monument (list entry). The monastery and pilgrimage church of the Visitation of Mary, which was elevated to a minor basilica in 2013, belongs to the deanery of Güssing in the diocese of Eisenstadt.

Güssing Castle is the oldest castle in Burgenland; it was built on an extinct volcano. Unfortunately, cycling is prohibited within the wall, so there is a “bicycle parking lot” to the right in front of the entrance.

10月 10, 2022, Großpetersdorf–Rechnitz Rail Trail
The cycle path was officially opened at the beginning of September. This approx. 14.5 km long section from Großpetersdorf to Rechnitz was developed as a cycle path on the former railway line. It leads from Großpetersdorf via Hannersdorf, Schandorf and Schachendorf to Rechnitz. The entire cycle route from the main square in Oberschützen to the reservoir in Rechnitz has a total length of around 42 km. Of these, around 21 km were expanded on the former route and around 2 km on the goods route network. In the section from Sonnseitn Oberschützen to the L424a Bad Tatzmannsdorfer Ast, a footpath and cycle path was built, and from here a cycle path to Schönberggasse in Oberwart.

The parish church towers high above Litzelsdorf and has shaped the image of the community for centuries. A church is said to have stood here as early as 1368. A small wooden church dedicated to Saint Leonhard originally stood on the Kirchenberg. In 1764 the wooden church was demolished and replaced by a stone building. The Chorherrenstift Vorau donated the high altar. In 1823 the stone building was demolished and replaced by the present church. The church is a destination of the "Border Guard Circular Trail".

One of the few saints who is also highly valued outside of Christianity is San Francesco, known in the German-speaking world as Francis of Assisi. Francis was born in Assisi in 1181/82 and died in 1226. In his youth as the son of wealthy parents he was a bon vivant, but later he turned to Christ. In the half-ruined little church of San Damiano, on the hillside outside the city walls of Assisi, he was praying one day and heard the voice of Christ coming down from the cross, urging him to “rebuild his church”. At first he took this request literally and restored the church building, later he came to realize that this is primarily about the church as the community of believers. Many people joined him, and the Order of the Friars Minor of Francis of Assisi was born. Today in the broad Franciscan religious family there are three male branches: the Franciscans, the Minorites and the Capuchins; and two females: the Franciscans and the Poor Clares. His burial church in Assisi, the Basilica of San Francesco, which did not even exist during Francis' lifetime, is nevertheless one of the great "original shrines" of the Franciscan religious family. It can be found here as a hiking highlight under this link: https://www.komoot.de/highlight/138624

The oldest castle in Burgenland, built in 1157 as a fortification, sits enthroned on a long-extinct volcanic cone. After several changes of ownership, it came into the possession of the Battyány family in 1524. To ward off dangers from the east, it was expanded into a brick-walled fortress in the 16th and 17th centuries. With the loss of its strategic importance, the castle was abandoned to decay in the 18th century, as the "roof tax" of that time made maintenance unaffordable for the owner. It has been owned by a foundation since 1870. After extensive restoration work, the castle is now in the same condition as it was 200 years ago.

"Our castle" - as a resident of the area, I can say that;) Absolutely worth seeing. And very special and unusual - really spooky - in the evening and night hours, when the castle shines in pink, purple, red light. Then the restaurant is closed and the elevator is out of order, but who knows, maybe you will meet the castle ghost? ;)

Güssing Castle is enthroned on a steep porphyry cone in the Strem valley near Güssing in Burgenland. With its construction in 1157, it is the oldest castle complex in Burgenland and a striking landmark in the region. The castle is run by the foundation of Weiland Prince Philipp Batthyány-Strattmann. Its curator is the respective head of the family - currently the 10th Prince, Ladislaus Edmund Batthyány-Strattmann, who runs the foundation with the administrator of the Province of Burgenland. 20 rooms of the stronghold are now home to a castle museum with around 5000 exhibits. You can see, among others. the ancestral gallery and the family museum of the Batthyány family, old weapons, sculptures and handicrafts as well as paintings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, including two portraits by the hand of Lucas Cranach the Elder. A very special attraction is the ascent to the walkable bell tower, from which a panoramic view of the Pannonian lowlands is possible. Theater performances, concerts and readings are often held on the castle grounds. Some rooms can also be rented for private events. An event was also taking place there during my visit, so I couldn't see the castle right into the inner courtyards.

This is also where the path leads past if you want to explore the castle "backwards". Via the beaten path to the castle gate. Adventurous :)
