The church of St. Sylvester in Unterfarnstädt is eye-catching with its tower and roof. The church, built in the middle of the 19th century between 1840 and 1844 in the Tudor style of English cathedral Gothic, is almost unique in Saxony-Anhalt, if not in Germany. Since the mid-1980s, the church has hardly been used for worship purposes. Noteworthy are some of the funeral crowns displayed on the south side of the nave, which were used to decorate unmarried deceased people at their burial in the 19th century. The committed support association has been looking after the preservation and renovation since the early 2000s. Currently (summer 2024) the biggest task and wish is to renovate the roof. Near the A38 motorway, the St. Pankratius motorway church in Rothenschirmbach is one of four motorway churches in Saxony-Anhalt. Not just for drivers, it is a resting place for the soul - as motorway churches are often called. A dedicated support group of volunteers ensures that the church is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., there is a toilet, fresh water and an opportunity to rest. You have the opportunity to light a candle, leave your worries or wishes in a box with prayer requests and, of course, to immortalize yourself in the guest book.
