The current image of the late historicist, old German town hall largely corresponds to that of the last stage of construction; the south wing of the building is dated 1889, the main wing 1893. The main façade facing the main square has a dome-topped central projection and corner turrets that protrude over the entire height. The facade decoration was greatly simplified in 1922, with the false brickwork of the walls on the upper floors being removed and the facade smoothed, the decoration on the roofs reduced and most of the statues in the wall niches lost; only two sandstone figures (lansquenets) and a sandstone bust remained on the west front. The figures were originally by the artists Hans Brandstetter, Karl Lacher, Karl Peckary, Emanuel Pendl and Rudolf Vital. The niche figures show important Austrians (such as the Habsburg emperors) and the four great allegories.

Feelings of happiness arise there at any time of year. It is a very special spot on earth, a true natural idyll, otherwise Arnie, the most famous son of the place - who grew up nearby and whose birthplace now shows his career as a museum - would probably not have proposed marriage to his then fiancée Maria Shriver right here, in a rowing boat on the Thalersee. Even though that was a while ago, the original boat on the shore of the Thalersee still bears witness to it today.

In the casual, newly built Cafe Thaler See Garten - with a beautiful large terrace right on the water - you can really enjoy the wonderful view with all kinds of fine specialties, cool drinks and of course coffee, cake and ice cream. Not only walkers and day-trippers like to stop off at the modern Waldcafé Thalersee, it also offers ideal conditions for events, seminars and celebrations on the lake.

The most impressive building on the main square is the Graz Town Hall, which was first built in its current location in 1550 in the Renaissance style. The main square and the town hall are the focal point of the center of Graz - the second largest city in Austria.

At the top of the mountain you have a great panoramic view of the city, ideally sitting on the wall with a drink. It is also a great place in the evening to enjoy the city lights.

A trip out on the lake in a rowing boat or pedal boat - perhaps with the swan - is great fun for all ages. But some people just come here to relax and make themselves comfortable on the large lawn on the western shore of the lake (don't forget your blanket).
