The castle courtyard has been converted into a theater stage. The tower was unfortunately closed. The ruins look more spectacular from a distance than they do from the ground. If you happen to be passing by, I'd recommend taking a look.

The history of the former Thiersteiner Veste goes back to the 14th century; it is the town's landmark that cannot be overlooked from all directions. Unfortunately closed indefinitely due to construction work (05/2024).

In the immediate vicinity of the castle are the ruins of the Horní zámek chateau, which burned down in 1902 and from which extensive remains of the walls have been preserved. The Lower Castle (Dolní zámek) was allowed to fall into disrepair during the Czechoslovak era.

Neuberg Castle is named after the von Neuberg family. It was first mentioned in a document in 1288. Due to the raids of local nobles against the imperial city of Eger, Charles IV destroyed the castle, which was rebuilt shortly afterwards. The raids then continued. In 1327, the Neubergers transferred their free property to the Bohemian King John and received it back as a fief. In 1392 ownership passed to the von Zedtwitz family. After the Thirty Years' War the castle remained uninhabited and fell into disrepair. The keep, which rises on a rock massif above the village, has been preserved. Cellar vaults were converted into an air raid shelter during World War II. The avenue leads from Schönwald Cemetery directly to Sophienreuth Castle.
