From September 15, 2024, stamp station 23 of the hiking treasures of the Wild Homeland will be located on the information board for the Hunnesrück castle ruins. Hunnesrück Castle was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Dassel. The castle in the Amtsberge (now a ruin) was the seat of the bailiff during the time of the Counts of Dassel and in the first episcopal period. Today hidden in the forest, in the Middle Ages it lay freely on a high steep edge of the lower Muschelkalk north of Dassel. From its towers you could see far into the Dassel Börde and into the Markoldendorf Basin as far as the Harz Mountains. Today only a few remains of the walls and the ramparts bear witness to their former importance. Nowadays, the landscape around the former castle is particularly inspiring: hikers can expect old sunken paths, natural forests, spacious meadow landscapes and the wonderful ridge path over the Amtsberge. Tip along the way: The Hunnesrück stallion breeding stud farm is also located on hiking trail Da 5. Foals can often be seen in the meadows nearby.
