Grubenhagen Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1263. It is unknown who built the castle. The Counts of Dassel or the Guelphs can be considered as builders. The castle was given up as a residence as early as 1520 and then gradually fell into disrepair. The castle association has been looking after the castle since 1977. The former horse stable can accommodate up to 40 people. The 18m high tower was also restored. This is usually locked. The key can be borrowed from the chairman of the castle association, Dieter Schrader, in Rotenkirchen (phone 05561 8422).
