A walk through the abandoned city is highly recommended. The audio museum is very informative.

The first written mention of Hamborn comes from the 9th century in a document from the monastery of Corvey. Between 1137 and 1140, Hamborn was donated to the Paderborn cathedral chapter (date of the burnt deed of donation according to the Westphalian document book). The result is the obedience of Hamborn. The origins of the castle go back to two estates that were bought by the von Hartmann family in the mid-19th century and combined into one estate. The family built what is now the east wing of the castle.

I was startled when a signal suddenly sounded behind me and was about to rush into the castle... Great idea, especially for children. Speakers, slightly hidden, that tell you a little about the surroundings and history in the simplest way. A short, easy story. I liked it.

The audio tour in the urban desert of Blankenrode is well done. It's especially nice for children to bring the old city to life.

Hamborn Castle offers a nice start for hikes in the surrounding area and afterwards you can stop in the cafe and enjoy the delicious cake in picture quality.

From the castle you have a beautiful view over the Almetal to the west

Spent 2 days in the youth hostel in the Wewelsburg. It was an impressive experience. Especially the exhibitions and museum. From there we are one day the Almetalradweg to Paderborn the way and the landscape was great, and the city of Paderborn with the sights. The next day we went to Warsten. All in all, it was a great track.

Beautiful narrow path through the forest and the deserted town of Blankenrode. Audio stations that are triggered by a motion detector turn it into an audio museum in the middle of the forest.
