10月 1, 2025, Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre
The large wall at the rear of the ruins has been reinforced. The keep is also now dilapidated. To prevent anyone from climbing the tower, the lower staircase has been removed.

The castle of Haut-Ribeaupierre (Hohrappoltstein) was probably built during the turmoil of the Interregnum around the mid-13th century. It served as an outpost at a time when the King of France was planning to invade Alsace. Later, it served as an observation tower for early warning of forest fires. The entire castle complex is dominated by an imposing circular keep, which offers a magnificent view of the Alsatian plain and the surrounding mountain ridges.

3月 28, 2024, Combe du Wormspel
If the Hohneck is one of the most famous peaks in the Vosges Mountains, it's certainly thanks to the superb scenery of the Wormspel valley, which lies just a short distance away. The valley offers a breathtaking panorama of Lake Schiessrothried and the Wormsa Valley.

6月 8, 2023, Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre
The Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre is an imposing castle complex that rises on a rock above the town of Ribeauvillé in Alsace, France. The castle, also known as the Upper Castle of Ribeauvillé, has a rich history dating back to the 12th century. The Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre consists of several buildings and towers surrounded by a defensive wall. It is a stunning example of medieval architecture and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, including the vineyards of Alsace. The castle played an important strategic role during the Middle Ages and was inhabited by various noble families, including the Lords of Ribeaupierre. Over the centuries the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times. Today, ruins and parts of the original structure still remain.

2月 21, 2023, Hohneck
With 1,363 meters above sea level, the Hohneck is the third highest peak in the Vosges. It is also one of the most iconic, and perhaps the most beloved. Next to the Route des Crêtes, it is the ideal starting point for family hikes. The view it offers is simply splendid. It magnificently dominates the lake of Schiessrothried, the slope being very abrupt in this place. A real postcard landscape perfectly representing the Vosges mountains.

2月 21, 2023, Gazon du Faing
Extending over five kilometres, this nature reserve forms a magnificent plateau of high stubble. Exposed to the winds between 1,200 and 1,300 meters above sea level, these moors do not allow vegetation to develop and create a landscape of typical Vosges shrubs. On its eastern slope, a ditch forms, offering magnificent views overlooking the four lakes.

12月 19, 2022, Petit Ballon
From its 1272 meters high, the Petit Ballon is certainly one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Vosges massif. Its vast expanse of high stubble and the absence of adjacent summits allow it to dominate the landscape at 360°, and in particular the plain of Alsace to the east with the Black Forest in the background. The ideal place to admire the sunset, especially since several farm inns are within walking distance to enjoy a delicious marcaire meal and/or spend the night. Less touristy than the large Vosges ridge facing it, the Petit Ballon provides an authentic mountain feeling, with its Tibetan flags, its statue of the Virgin and its Vosges breed cow farms.

11月 3, 2022, Temple du Donon
The Donon is 1009 meters high and is the highest point of the lower Vosges, where the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine meet. The Romans dedicated this place to the god Mercury. The Donon rock, feared by the first Christians, allegedly later determined the worldview of Victor Hugo. Under Napoleon III. the summit is crowned with a copy of an ancient temple.

10月 8, 2022, Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre
The castle, which was first mentioned in the 11th century under the name Altenkastel, was owned by the Lords of Rappoltstein. In 1288 it was besieged at the same time as Ulrichsburg by Rudolf von Habsburg, who stayed there several times at the end of the 13th century. In the 16th century the castle was modernized and adapted for firearms, later it served as a watchtower before finally being abandoned at the end of the Thirty Years' War. 10月 8, 2022, Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre
A beautiful mystical place with the ruined castle of Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre. The ascent to the keep is somewhat hidden and slightly overgrown in places. The keep itself is no longer accessible. From the castle ruins you have a beautiful view of the Rhine plain and the Black Forest.

9月 6, 2022, Grand Ballon
The Grand Ballon is the highest peak in the Vosges. Dominating all the other peaks of the Alsace-Lorraine mountain range, this mountain is 1424 m high. About 500 years B.C. The sun god Belenus, the supreme deity of the Celts, was worshiped up here, from which the name Belchen could have been derived. From the summit of the Grand Ballon, which has been fairly rounded off by glaciers and erosion, you have a unique panoramic view that stretches from the Black Forest to the Jura and the Alps. To the north-west are the peaks of the longest Vosges ridge, which stretches up over the Route des Crêtes to the Col de lagorge. Opposite to the west, Drumont and Ventron impress. From the car park you can reach the summit of the Grand Ballon in about 20 minutes. The stony footpath leads past the remains of the old Belchenhotel to the memorial for the "Diables bleus", the French mountain troops in World War I 1917. There is also a weather station and a radar station for flight observation. The infrastructure on the Grand Ballon includes summit hotels, restaurants, ski lifts and trails for winter sports, hiking trails and a summer toboggan run. The ruins of Ribeaupierre still lie above the Ulrichsburg. Not nearly as well preserved, unfortunately, you can no longer climb the tower, but the rest of the gates, walls and the keep are impressive. You also have a very nice view. Especially in winter without leaves 😉. This is then the third of the Rappoltsteiner castles. https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Hohrappoltstein
