Now a "terrible komoot hodgepodge" 🤔

Around 1130, St. Martin's Church in Nussdorf was "gifted" to Hirsau Abbey by an Eberhard, "born of a noble and free family...". This event marks the first recorded mention of a church in Nussdorf. Until the Reformation, Hirsau Abbey held property here and possessed the right of patronage, which later passed to the Duchy of Württemberg. For nine hundred years, until its destruction in April 1945, St. Martin's Church served as the parish and village church in the center of Nussdorf. Today, the St. Martin's Tower and the sacristy, dating from 1498 and integrated into the community center built in 1981, are the last remaining vestiges of the former house of worship.

Shortly before the end of World War II, Nussdorf was almost completely destroyed in fighting between German defenders and advancing French troops. Both churches also burned down during the fighting. St. Martin's Church suffered much greater damage, as the large amount of wood used in the pews and galleries generated much more intense heat. The surrounding walls were partially burned out, and the choir vault, in particular, suffered so much damage that a large portion collapsed during the first rainstorm.

One of the few remaining intact historic arched bridges crossing the Kreuzbach stream. It's not only practical for crossing the water, but also looks very attractive.

Several natural hiking trails lead through the beautifully situated Kreuzbach Valley, allowing you to hike either side of the Kreuzbach stream. In some places, historic stone bridges allow you to cross the stream. Each season lends the wide valley its own unique character.

Nice little forest with trails that provides lovely shade in the heat and is perfect for a walk.
