The castle dates back to the Middle Ages and was expanded into its current form in the 15th century. It is picturesquely situated on the banks of the Jagst River and impresses with its solid stonework and historic flair. Today, it is privately owned but houses, among other things, a hotel and serves as a venue for the Jagsthausen Castle Festival, where Goethe's "Götz von Berlichingen" is performed annually on the open-air stage.

A former residential tower from the 16th century, built on the site of a previous structure (around 1300). Today, it serves as the operational and residential building of the Burg Wildeck wine-growing experimental estate. Entry to the castle courtyard is not permitted.

Helfenberg Castle, built in the Staufer period, was once a large residential castle with a residential tower and shield wall. The elaborately designed residential tower with three floors leaned against the shield wall. Other knightly families keep cropping up as owners. In 1259, the name Albertus de Helfenberg is mentioned in a document from the Lichtenthal monastery. In 1579, Philipp von Wittstadt rebuilt and expanded Helfenberg Castle. He tried several times to have the castle transferred to his daughter or her son-in-law, Hans von Buchholz, but the Württemberg fiefdom refused permission. This was the reason why Hans von Buchholz had his own castle built down in the hamlet of Finkenbach. The name Finkenbach probably changed to Helfenberg (Unterhelfenberg) in the process. With Unterhelfenberg and Oberhelfenberg, there were thus two knightly estates in 1625. Since the 18th century, the entire Helfenberg estate was in the hands of the von Gaisberg family.

A particularly dramatic episode occurred in 1525 during the German Peasants' War. The peasants, rebelling against the oppression and high taxes of the nobles, laid siege to Neipperg Castle. The siege was fierce and the castle's defenders had to stand up bravely against the attackers. Eventually the Lords of Neipperg managed to repel the siege, but the damage to the castle was considerable. After the war, the castle was rebuilt and reinforced to better withstand future attacks. These events shaped the history of the castle and made it a symbol of the resistance and steadfastness of the Lords of Neipperg.

In the heart of Gemmingen, between the castle courtyard and Wiesenstrasse, is the old stately castle park, which was acquired and renovated by the municipality of Gemmingen in the 1980s. The idea behind it was English gardening. The center of the site today is the castle park pond, which is fed by its own spring, the Murrbach, and mainly by an old pipe from the Losterbach spring. Adjacent to the northern bank is an octagonal wooden pavilion. There are various events, concerts, children's performances and also an open-air cinema. Every two years, the park festival takes place across the entire area, organized by Gemmingen and Stebbach clubs. Not far from the pavilion, on the edge of the path, you will come across a bronze group, the Gänseliesel. It was donated by a Gemmingen citizen. Above the vineyards, nice and shady inside to linger after the climb. Not overcrowded at all, but I think it's worth seeing.
