Very beautiful place and the silence of the Schiffenensee

There is a great, bilingual book about the creation of the Schiffenen reservoir, over which the viaduct runs, with many pictures of the time before the Saane was dammed. It also has portraits of contemporary witnesses who had roots in the Saane valley. The book was published in 2012 by the O.S.K.A.R. association. The castle in the hamlet of Balliswil is a country estate of the Montenach family. The largely intact, impressive ensemble of the country estate consists of a manor house, a tenant's house, a chapel and an outbuilding. Three avenues lead to the hamlet. Unfortunately, a tour is not possible. The entire property is largely surrounded by a wall.

Not only is the restaurant something special, the beautiful park with its old trees is also a little gem.

In 1975, the public recognized the ecological value of the area and declared it a nature reserve. Six years later, the municipality of Düdingen bought a large part of the Möser. In order to preserve the typical plants of the Möser, the wet meadows are now mown and the forest is pushed back. At present, checks are being carried out to see whether the water level can be raised again.
