This landscape and bird sanctuary is precisely called “Vorderer Roxheimer Altrhein-Krumbeeräcker”, is 25.3 hectares in size and belongs to the Rhine-Palatinate area. There are rare plant and animal species, as you can see on the Nabu information boards. It's relatively easy to guess what crumbberries - i.e. potatoes - have to do with it. A circumnavigation of this arm of the Old Rhine is just over 5 km long. You can stop off at Seestube Bader, for example, where the food and service are always good (www.seehotelbader.de).

Lake Eicher is connected to the Rhine, so the lake is surrounded by a holiday resort with weekend homes, many of which have their own private jetty. Several spots offer excellent views of the lake. The terrace of the Kleine Kneipe (small pub) is located directly on the shore and offers cyclists and hikers a great place to take a break. Lake Eicher is not really a swimming spot, however.

The replica of the world-famous Rialto Bridge can always be admired in the period around the gondola festival (beginning of July); after that it will be dismantled again.
