A short, sharp climb - leading up to the village of Mathry. The village itself was a site of a former Bronze-Age defensive hill fort, acting as a perfect high point to spot an approaching enemy. Today, it's a little more quiet and the locals don't worry about that sort of thing so much.

Roch Castle is now a luxury hotel, but back in the 12th century it was somewhat less accommodating. Built as one of the outer defences of the Landsker, separating Norman-held areas to the South from the Welsh held area to the North. It has a commanding position meaning that it can see, and be seen for miles around.

Evensong each evening in the cathedral at 6:00pm. We were lucky enough to visit when the full cathedral choir was singing.
