In Vidin itself are many uninhabited, dilapidated houses, old inhabited houses, prefabricated buildings and new buildings in stark contrast to each other. This juxtaposition of swanky old communist buildings, lovingly restored old buildings and dilapidated houses is somehow fascinating. The hotel is a large building in a park about 2 km from the center. It is clean and has air conditioning. Vidin has a very nice Danube promenade with many restaurants and there is delicious beer, the half liter for the equivalent of 0.51 €.

I'm up early because I'm curious and even more excited what awaits me in Bulgaria. Bojan has been waiting for me with coffee. The guy is really unique. After about 15 km I am the first time in my life in Bulgaria. The border control was done quickly. Show your ID and you're done. All border guards are very friendly and wish me a good journey. The drive to Vidin can be briefly described. Wide, gentle hills to the right and left of the good road with very little traffic. Agriculture, as far as the eye can see Sunflowers and sometimes grapevines. There are small sleepy villages and a little bit more lively smaller town. You hear a cock from time to time, otherwise there is silence. Older people sit in the shade and either wave to me with a smile or look surprised or amazed. Cows and goats also run on the street. Occasionally donkeys are standing on the edge and grazing peacefully. Often the road is lined with trees and you just glide along in the shade. Lovely to drive, and the dogs are peaceful too. For the first time in three days I see the Danube again.
