Plenty of gravel parking is available on the hillside. It's often very crowded on weekends when the weather is good. From here, you can start the premium hiking trail P14 or explore the many smaller circular routes in the Kaufungen Forest. A large hiking map is located at the parking area.

The heath at the Schwarzenberg Hut is a very surprising landscape that I did not expect, absolutely worth seeing.

The Großer Exbergsee, also known as the Epteröder See, is a former open-cast mining lake in the Hirschberg mining area. Lignite was mined there from 1965 to 1973. The lake is approximately 10 hectares in size and has a maximum depth of 32-38 meters.

It is finished, inauguration on October 3rd, 2023

Dry heaths owe their existence to unregulated grazing over long periods of time, during which a hut forest was transformed into a more or less tree-free, open area by the browsing of cattle.
