Beautiful forest road very beautiful

The ideal destination for cyclists, hikers and nature lovers. The adventure trail near Uplengen was completed at the end of 2008. This circular hiking trail with a lookout tower and a replica of an ancient plank path that led through the moor thousands of years ago gives visitors an idea of how the impassable moor was crossed back then. You can also take a break in the middle of the untouched nature or learn information about the flora and fauna from several information boards set up there. The trail is 1.6 km long. There is enough parking space.

Near St. Nicholas Church

Old church from the 13th century with an atypical design, nave separated from the tower. The St. Nicholas Church in the municipality of Apen was built in 1239. The church is an early Gothic brick church that stands on the old cemetery in Apen. The church building was extensively renovated between 1990 and 1995. The bell tower stands separately next to the church. There are two bells in the bell tower of the St. Nicholas Church. An older, smaller bell dates from around the 1350s and is one of the oldest bells in northwest Germany. This bell is also called the Catherine Bell because it bears the image of Saint Catherine. The larger bell was cast in 1621 and was brought to Apen by soldiers during the Thirty Years' War. The church tower of the St. Nicholas Church was built in 1497.
