A Journey Back in Time: The Old Watermill in Bad Essen The mill clatters along the rushing stream. Clack, clack. You're inevitably reminded of the old children's song when you stand in front of the Old Watermill in Bad Essen. On summer weekends, the wooden waterwheel turns just like in the old days. Today, hardworking, volunteer millers look after the historic building on the outskirts of Bad Essen and take you on a journey back in time. From Grain to Flour Once upon a time, it was the farm mill of the neighboring Maierhof. Today, just as then, grain is still being milled in the mill. Every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (May to October), three millers will take you along and, in their charming way, explain everything you need to know about the milling processes and machinery. Today, grain is once again being milled into flour at the Old Watermill in Bad Essen. The freshly produced whole-grain flour is also for sale. If you'd like to try it yourself:

Goethe Hut and Eichendorff Memorial Stone After a few hundred meters on the TERRA.track Goethegang we reach the Goethe Hut. The Bad Essen Beautification Association built it and gave it this name at the opening, which took place just a few days after the 10th anniversary of the German poet's death. After the hut burned down in 2014, the association rebuilt it the following year. Several quotes from Goethe adorn the hut. On the Born, the Goethe Hut naturally also welcomes us on our tour on the TERRA.track Goethegang. Just a few hundred meters further on we meet the next poet - in the form of the Eichendorff Memorial Stone. On July 20, 1910, spa guests of the Waldhotel erected a memorial stone made of broken rock from the site on their local mountain with the then fascinating distant view. It was based on the poem “Reiselied” by Joseph von Eichendorff (1788-1857), which is why this place was not given the name Eichendorff-Denkstein until much later.

This official trail is very rideable and has fun features. With the right riding technique, it's also suitable for beginners. This upper section can also be ridden as a circuit.
