Excellent cafe half way down the west side of the lake. Tremendous selection of coffees, sandwiches, soup, drinks and more. Well worth a stop.

Great vege cafe Joey's

Joey's Cafe at Claife Viewing Station is one of their four eateries in the Lake District. This one is located in a beautiful stone cottage at Claife, which offers fabulous views over Lake Windermere. Joey's cafes are eco-based and plant-focused with plenty of delicious vegan treats and great coffee.

I would skip the upper part of the trail as most of it is through diseased forest land and mainly on gravel forest roads.

Lots of periods of the latter end of walk through an area of regeneration. We didn't enjoy that park.

The photo is the entrance to Wray Castle, I did not go in for a look, just rode past the entrance. It does not look a big site, but it does look tidy

This is a rare section of road on the west side of Lake Windermere which literally hugs the lake for a short period. There's also a footpath and set of steps close by which will take you up to the National Trust's Claife Viewing Station. Here you can pick up some tasty treats from Joey's Cafe and enjoy the excellent views.

Bike boat unfortunately didnt run during summer 2023 due to staff shortages- hopefully it'll be back in 2024 as it makes a wonderful loop for families.

Great walk although can be quite busy with tourists along the lake

Good little spot for a picnic and to soak in the sun and landscape. Lots of little embankments to sit on as well as short grass; all overlooking the tarn.

Beautiful little castle. Dogs are allowed into the grounds but not the castle itself. Joey’s cafe next door is amazing 🤩

Great little path around the Tarn - easily accessible and well signposted.

Beautiful gatehouse to Wray Castle

Quite an impressive gatehouse for Wray Castle. Constructed very much in the same way as the castle itself.

The church was built in 1856 by James Dawson, a retired surgeon from Liverpool, who built Wray Castle next door and intended the Church as a chapel for ‘the spiritual benefit of his family, retainers, estate workers , servants and friends’. It was consecrated in 1861.
