Great hike in Ķemeri

The Slokas Lake Trail takes you deep into the silent beauty of Latvian nature. The narrow wooden walkway winds through dense, swampy forests and opens up views of vast expanses of water where the sunlight plays. As you follow the trail, you will experience the diversity of wetland flora - tall trees, green reeds and the gentle glitter of the water create a calming atmosphere. In spring and autumn, the trail becomes a paradise for birdwatchers, as numerous migratory birds rest in the surrounding lakes. An ideal place for a quiet hike where you can experience Latvia's wild nature up close.

This sandy path leads idyllically along the moor and invites you to experience the raw beauty of this landscape up close. To the left, the open moor stretches out, interspersed with heather and delicate pines that sway slightly in the gentle breeze. The scent of pine needles and damp soil is in the air and mixes with a hint of heather - an unmistakable natural perfume. Here, between the trees and the moor, you can feel the tranquility of the landscape, which seems wild and gentle at the same time. The path meanders slightly uphill and downhill, which provides variety and constantly opens up new perspectives on the moor.

The Green Dune is a place full of peace and natural beauty. Here the path climbs gently through tall pine forests where the light magically plays between the trees. The ground is covered with moss and blueberries and the air smells of resin and damp forest floor. The path winds through the gentle elevations of the dune and offers small clearings that invite you to pause. It is the perfect place to unwind and listen to the quiet sounds of the forest.

The pavilion on the "Island of Lovers" is a quiet retreat in the middle of Ķemeri Park, surrounded by picturesque scenery and the small Vēršupīte River. The white rotunda with its curved staircase and the surrounding bridge is reminiscent of times gone by, when the park was a popular health resort. The surroundings look like a scene from an old novel, ideal for a stroll or a quiet break. This place unfolds its nostalgic charm especially at dusk.

The jetty is not anchored with posts as usual, but rests on a kind of floating buoy. This means that the jetty gives way with every step and goes down a few centimeters (sometimes more, sometimes less). But everything is safe!

If most of the world's Sulphur Springs are formed in volcanically active places, Latvian Sulphur Springs are unusual in that they are formed in areas where peat contacts with gypsum rocks. Under the Quaternary peat deposits (Holocene epoch) lie Late Devonian gypsum rocks (Salaspils suite) which are washed by groundwater. Sulfate-reducing bacteria which emit hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in their process of life live in these conditions. The hydrogen sulfide oxidized in the water and sulphur precipitates at the bottom of the sulphur spring.

The 3.1km long trail along the shores with lakes - which is populated by numerous waterfowl - winds through various forests. It starts and ends at Sloka Lake, where there is a parking lot, a picnic area, and a 7 m high floating tower for sightseeing. Walking along the trail, you can see a number of interesting sites – swamp forests of Vēršupīte, sulphur spring near Sloka Lake, the great bolder, and several swamp lakes. Climbing the observing tower, you can dive into bird watching on Slokas Lake. A boardwalk (of a width of 80 cm) was constructed through the Vēršupīte and covered other wetlands
