Beautiful little lake at the edge of the tour.

Those who walk along the path near the shore will enjoy many beautiful views of the lake, but few good opportunities for swimming. Here is one of the best. A large meadow, benches, and two excellent entrances into the water. Just above the embankment, you can see a ruined building of the former Lychen pulmonary sanatorium rising above the trees. But the fully fenced-in grounds are no longer a lost place. Many of the buildings have been stylishly renovated, creating a first-class park-like property. There are exclusive apartments and even vacation apartments available for short-term rentals!

The town of Lychen was founded as early as 1248. Lychen has a Baroque town hall on the market square, originally built on an older town hall site. Throughout its history, it has experienced several fires: in 1633, a fire caused great devastation, and in 1732, the town hall burned down again to its foundations. In 1748, it was rebuilt as a two-story, Baroque plastered building with a tower and mansard roof. In 1817, the town hall received a clock. In 1945, it partially burned down again. The final reconstruction took place in 1956/57, but without the tower and clock for cost reasons. In front of the town hall stands an oversized thumbtack, invented by Johann Kirsten in Lychen in 1903. The town hall now serves as the seat of the Lychen city administration and is centrally located on the market square and in the town center.

The Hohenlychen Sanatorium was a complex of sanatoriums in Lychen, Uckermark, that operated from 1902 to 1945. It was originally founded in 1902 to treat children with tuberculosis. During World War II, the sanatorium was used as a Waffen-SS hospital.

The Schäferwiese in Lychen is the town's largest playground and is located directly on the shore of Lake Oberpfuhl, near the Templiner Tor (Templiner Gate). The Schäferwiese is a central point for water sports activities, as it serves as the portage point for canoes and rafts that must be transported across the road from higher-lying lakes like Lake Oberpfuhl to the lower-lying Stadtsee (city lake).

In the final days of the war in 1945, the building burned down again. In 1957, the people of Lychen rebuilt their town hall, but without the tower and clock for cost reasons.

In the first decades, before the city walls had been built, the church likely served as a refuge for the Lychen population during attacks. The early Gothic fieldstone building, dedicated to John the Baptist since 1302, was expanded and remodeled several times over the centuries. A major fire destroyed the original interior in 1684. During reconstruction, the church received a Baroque high altar and a gallery.
