A beautiful hike around Lake Großdöllner See, but NOT a bike tour, not even with a mountain bike! Numerous fallen tree trunks, as well as entire treetops, especially along the north shore, make a bike ride a challenge!

The information board tells us what we're allowed to think about it. Of course, I would never question this or the era back then. I do find it striking that the era then and now produce quite similar figures.

The Immanuel Church in Groß Schönebeck has a patronage that is – in my experience – rare: it is not dedicated to one of the many people we venerate as saints, but to Jesus Christ himself. The name Immanuel – or also written Emmanuel – comes from the Hebrew language and means “God is with us”. It is rarely used as a title for the Son of God, Jesus Christ, but a well-known hymn from the pre-Christmas period uses it: “O come, O come, Emmanuel, my Israel longs for you”. The biblical basis for the name is on the one hand the evangelist Matthew (Mt 1:23), who, however, draws on an Old Testament promise from the book of Isaiah (chapter 7) and relates it to the birth of Jesus.

As a half-timbered building, it is already an impressive village church. Unfortunately, as is often the case, it is difficult to photograph due to large trees.
