The distinctive terraced houses were created through renovations that adapted the lifestyle of the aristocratic canonesses (each wanted her own apartment instead of communal monastic life): Major renovation 1722–1730: In the old medieval buildings (e.g., the refectory and dormitory dating from around/after 1300), terraced houses were created so that each canoness had her own small "house" (apartment with a separate entrance). These changes are still visible in the walls today. The canonesses' terraced houses form part of the residential development around Damenplatz (Ladies' Square). They were renovated after 1990 (the 1849 building was the first to be completed in 2001) and now mostly serve as apartments.

The town hall is the central representative building in the historic center of the island town and was built between 1818 and 1821. It is a two-story half-timbered building in the neoclassical style with a striking mansard roof and a central balcony. The gray paint of the timber framing gives the building a solid appearance. Together with the neighboring former district court, built in 1881, it forms the town's administrative center. Both buildings are connected by a modern glass walkway. The attic of the town hall contains preserved detention cells that were used until the 1950s. The building reflects the town's history and is one of the region's architectural highlights. Thus, the town hall is not only an administrative building, but also a testament to Malchow's eventful history and an architectural highlight for visitors to the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Malchow is wonderful to explore by bike and offers ideal conditions for cycling. This charming island town delights with its blend of nature, history, and relaxed atmosphere. A good starting point is Malchow's town harbor, with its view of the swing bridge, which opens hourly and is a small experience in itself. From there, a well-developed network of cycle paths leads along Lake Malchow and on through wooded landscapes and tranquil fields. A tour around Lake Fleesen or a detour into the "Blüthenmoor" nature reserve is particularly worthwhile, where, with a bit of luck, you might spot cranes or white-tailed eagles. Cultural attractions can also be easily incorporated, such as the DDR Museum or the historic monastery church on the monastery island. For a relaxing break, there are cafés and restaurants with lake views – the outdoor terraces right by the swing bridge are especially lovely. The routes are mostly flat and well signposted, making Malchow suitable for both ambitious cyclists and those who prefer a leisurely ride. Those who don't bring their own bicycle will find numerous rental stations on site, including those offering e-bikes. This makes cycling around Malchow a truly enjoyable experience amidst water, forests, and expansive views.
