Based on the order of 1779 to build a salt depot in Budissin, a salt warehouse was built in 1782. After the salt bar was moved to the town hall in 1834, the Royal Saxon Court of Appeal in Budissin, the highest judicial authority in Upper Lusatia, the district administration and the Royal District Office were established here in 1835. The church was first mentioned in 1293 as the Church of Our Lady on the salt market, now the church square. A cemetery was located here from 1318 to 1865. It was destroyed by the Hussites in 1431 and rebuilt in 1443. In 1620, 1634, and 1686, the church was again destroyed by wars and fires, and rebuilt in 1690 with a stone hall.
